The ancient documents, work in which the meager historical elements are interwoven rather overwhelmed by the literary ones, where the legendary and the miraculous builders have clear intent and exhortation, give us especially news of their martyrdom. Raised a Christian with the other three brothers, Antimo, Leander and Euprepio Teodota mother in the town of the Aegean, the twins Cosmas and Damian practicing the medical art full gratuity, and are therefore called Anargiri. At the time of Diocletian and Maximian 284-305 286-310 they were arrested and brought before the Proconsul Lysias for their Christian faith. After fruitless attempts to make them recant, runs the torture sequence, which always come out unscathed by divine intervention: they are tortured, chained and then immersed in water, thrown in the fire, with the prop still tortured, stoned, plagued with arrows, and in either case stones and arrows ritrorcono cortro the executioners, and finally they are beheaded on September 27: On their tomb was built a basilica named after them. Their cult was widespread in Constantinople in the first mid-fifth century, where two churches were erected in their honor and another two were built by the Emperor Justinian 518-527, also in Rome were dedicated to their churches by the Pope Symmachus 498-514 and Felix IV 526530:
